The Fez Smart Factory project is part of the ongoing development of the Euromed University of Fez, envisioned as a sustainable industrial zone dedicated to smart factories. The project’s volumetry reinforces both the singularity and the homogeneity of the building. This is emphasized by the double-skin motif. The architectural expression of the volume, playing on horizontality and the whiteness of the double skin, gives the building a light, human-scaled character. The stratification of the volume is accompanied by major subtractive gestures that structure both interior and exterior spaces. The lower stratum, at street level, forms a transparent base opening onto an open-air patio. The pedestrian street that crosses the building is marked by a patio that brings in zenithal light. Finally, carved terraces opening outward animate the façade and articulate the relationship between interior and exterior spaces. The project’s façade is conceived as contemporary and impactful. The very nature of the program, characterized by its research and cultural dimensions, calls for a balance between identity and modernity. The double skin in ductal concrete, composed of identity-based motifs reinterpreted through a parametric language enabled by new design technologies, expresses this ambition.
