The site is located in a region with strong architectural symbolism and a well-defined history. Deeply rooted in tradition, the Souss region has nevertheless integrated influences from modern architecture and the International Style. Thus, through a banded design approach, and by adopting the region’s architectural principles while inscribing the project within a contemporary architectural language, the proposal fully respects existing urban planning constraints. During the design process, Atelier BE. paid particular attention to the orientation of the buildings in relation to the existing context. The study area is an arid territory, where vegetation is scarce and survives according to climatic variations. Endemic species resistant to drought and high temperatures persist on the site. These characteristics, although at first glance potentially discouraging in terms of the city’s and region’s attractiveness, can instead be leveraged as defining assets of the faculty. The close proximity of the city of Tiznit, the availability of undeveloped land, as well as the specific climatic conditions and the distinctive local fauna and flora, all argue in favor of the creation of an eco-faculty. In this sense, the present project seeks to revitalize the site located between the two cities through the creation of the “Eco-University of Tiznit,” whose emergence will be rooted in the collection and management of water.
