Public space constitutes the showcase of a city a place of social life and representation. In recent years, projects to redevelop public squares have been launched with the aim of modernizing, standardizing, and bringing these spaces up to code. However, such interventions, often inspired by Western models, can lead to a rupture with traditional urban practices. The uniformization of these spaces generates additional costs for local shopkeepers, and the most vulnerable populations are forced to cease their activities due to a lack of financial means. Public spaces are largely appropriated informally by local communities. It is therefore crucial to structure these spaces without disrupting the social dynamics that have existed for several generations. This drive for attractiveness takes place within a tourism-oriented context that has become a national priority.
